Target Group

International students who are interested in pursuing a career in children’s education and care services in Australia. Graduates at this level will be able to design and implement curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations.

It is expected that learners have already held a qualification of CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education or CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Where learners have previous experience, they will be able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning and will be granted credits in units where they are able to demonstrate competence across all aspects of those units.

Learners could be looking to get the skills to join or re-join the workforce, get better employment opportunities, move into a new career or gain additional skills in their existing career.

Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

(CHC) Community Services Training Package (Release 5.0-9.3)

This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators. Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens. To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011) the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au.

To be awarded this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in

  • 12 core units
  • 3 elective units, consisting of:
  • 2 units from the electives listed below
  • up to 1 unit from the list below, elsewhere in the CHC Community Services Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course.

The selection of electives chosen must be guided by the job outcome sought, local sector requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites required for entry in the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. However, students entering this course at The Performance College must meet the following entry requirements: 

All learners will undertake an initial skills assessment to determine suitability for the course and student needs. The review aims to identify their training needs through questions on previous education or training, the relevance of the course and relevant experience. Determination of course suitability and additional support (if any) will be made by a qualified assessor.

All students will be required to complete an LLN assessment prior to the commencement of the course. The Performance College uses the LLN robot platform for the assessment.

All reports, training supplements and recommendations are generated by the LLN Robot system after comparing the learner’s ACSF spiky profile to the profile of this course.

For students to work on assessments, tasks and self-study all learners are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with Windows operating system and office application like Microsoft word at their own cost.

Where needed, The Performance College will provide access to computers/laptops, through an MoU setup with an external IT company.

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold one of the following qualifications:

  • CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
  • CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent*. For equivalency of various English Languages proficiency testing, and other forms of equivalency please refer to the Student handbook

OR

A minimum of two (2) years of study at an AQF Level 4 or higher completed in Australia

Students must be a minimum age of 18 years or above at the time of course outset

A mandatory 280 hours work based training in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours are applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Prior to commencement of work placement, students are required to have the following:

  • Police Clearance Certificate (it must be no less than 12 months old).
  • A Valid Working with Children
  • Relevant immunisation check (if required by work placement provider)

These checks must be completed prior to industry work placement.
