The Diploma of Community Services is a nationally recognised qualification that prepares you to support individuals, families, and groups through case management, advocacy, and social services. This comprehensive program equips you with the skills needed to make a meaningful impact in the community services sector. Graduates are prepared to work across a range of sectors including mental health, homelessness, domestic violence, and child protection within government, nonprofit, and community organisations.

Face to Face Learning

Learn directly from experienced trainers in our Melbourne campus with hands-on, interactive classroom sessions.

Comprehensive Curriculum

12 core units and 8 electives covering case management, crisis response, domestic violence, mental health, and community development.

200 Hours Placement

Mandatory work-based training in a community services organisation in Australia to gain real-world experience.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is designed for international students seeking to pursue community services careers, enter new industry sectors, or access pathways to higher qualifications. Graduates will be qualified to deliver, manage, and coordinate person-centred services across a range of community settings.

Where learners have previous experience, they will be able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning and will be granted credits in units where they are able to demonstrate competence across all aspects of those units.

Students entering the Diploma of Community Services at The Performance College must meet the following entry requirements:

Academic Requirement

Satisfactory completion of Year 12 or equivalent qualification from the applicant’s home country, OR successful completion of a Certificate IV level course at an Australian RTO. Must achieve ACSF Level 4 for reading, writing, numeracy, and oral communication.

English Language Requirements

Minimum IELTS band score of 6 or equivalent (results no older than 2 years). Alternative evidence includes 5+ years education in an English-speaking country, completion of 6+ months Certificate IV at an Australian RTO, or a successful English Placement Test. PTE and TOEFL accepted if equivalent to IELTS 6.

Pre-Training Review

All learners will undertake an initial skills assessment and course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs. Determination of course suitability and additional support (if any) will be made by a qualified assessor.

Language Literacy and Numeracy

All students will be required to complete an LLN assessment prior to the onset of the course. The Performance College uses the LLN Robot platform for the assessment. All reports and training supplements are generated by the LLN Robot system after comparing the learner’s ACSF spiky profile to the profile of this course.

Work Based Training

A mandatory 200 hours of work-based training in a community services organisation in Australia is required as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Hardware / Software Requirements

For students to work on assessments, tasks and self-study all learners are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with Windows operating system and office application like Microsoft Word at their own cost. Where needed, The Performance College will provide access to computers or laptops, through an MoU setup with an external IT company.

Age Requirement

Students must be a minimum age of 18 years or above at the time of course commencement.
