We deliver several early childhood qualifications and the differences matter, so to be exact about which one this is.
This is CHC50125, the Diploma, studied online by domestic students over 6 to 9 months. International students take the same qualification over 52 weeks on campus in the Melbourne CBD. If you do not yet hold a Certificate III, start with the online Certificate III instead, because it is a formal entry requirement for this course.
Flexible Online Learning, With Live Classes
Classes are live Zoom sessions on a timetable with a trainer present, and course materials stay available around them.
At diploma level that combination earns its keep. Much of what you are assessed on is judgement rather than recall, and judgement gets built by talking through situations with someone who has seen them before.
You will need a computer and an internet connection that will hold a video class end to end.
Practical Placement: 280 Hours
CHC50125 requires a minimum of 280 hours of hands-on work-based training in a regulated children’s education and care service. The hours are counted collectively across the units carrying a workplace requirement, so they run through the course rather than arriving as one block.
That figure is the single biggest driver of how long the diploma takes you. Two days a week in a service moves you through it noticeably faster than one, and nobody can compress the total.
Before you start you will need a police clearance certificate no more than 12 months old, a valid Working with Children clearance, and immunisation checks where the placement provider requires them. Apply for all three at once; the slowest sets your start date.
We arrange the placement and have partner sites across Victoria. The assistance is included in the course fee.

It suits people already working in long day care centres, family day care, preschools, kindergartens or outside school hours care who want to progress into senior educator, educational leader or centre director roles.
Entry Requirements
You must hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Recognition of Prior Learning is available where you have the experience without every unit formally recorded, and experienced educators are frequently credited.
You will also need to be 18 or over when the course commences, and to hold Year 12 or an equivalent, or a 12 month qualification completed in English. Every student completes a language, literacy and numeracy assessment beforehand through the LLN Robot platform, which shapes the support we arrange.

What It Costs
The diploma is $3,500 for domestic students. Enrolment is a further $250, and placement assistance is included in both.
Instalments are monthly or quarterly, with no interest and no additional charges.
Victoria funds subsidised and fee free training places at approved providers for students who meet the eligibility rules. Check whether you qualify before enrolling anywhere, ourselves included.
