Aged Care Course Melbourne: CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support

If you are moving into aged care work, one qualification opens the door: CHC33021, the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability). The Performance College delivers it in Melbourne, to domestic and international students. Domestic students study online with live Zoom classes and finish in 6 to 9 months. The course fee is $2,500. Enrolment adds another $250, and both can be paid off monthly or quarterly. Study is online with monthly intakes, every month except December, so you take the next start date rather than waiting for a term to open.

What CHC33021 Qualifies You To Do

This is the entry qualification for the care sector, and it is what job ads mean when they ask for "a Cert III". If you want to become an aged care worker, this is the certificate that gets you onto the floor. It puts you in reach of the frontline roles that residential homes and in home services recruit for:
  • Personal care assistant
  • Aged care worker
  • Home care worker
  • Community care worker
The qualification is built around the things those roles actually turn on: person centred care, infection prevention and control, communication with clients and families, and supporting a person's independence and wellbeing rather than doing everything for them. Dementia and palliative care can be part of the qualification too. It is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, so it holds its value if you move interstate or change employer.

Ageing Care, Disability Support, or Both

CHC33021 carries a dual specialisation, Ageing and Disability, so our aged care and disability courses are in fact the same qualification. This page covers the ageing side of it, because that is what most people mean when they ask about an aged care course. The disability stream is the same certificate and the same enrolment. If you want the qualification set out in full, with both specialisations covered and the online study detail that goes with it, read the full CHC33021 course page. Nothing changes about the fee or the duration. It is one course, described from the other end.

About The Performance College

We are a registered training organisation, RTO 46069, and a CRICOS registered provider, CRICOS 04180C. That means we sit under ASQA and the Standards for RTOs, and under the ESOS framework for our international students. It is the reason a certificate from here carries the same weight as one from any other registered provider.

Rekha Sehrawat started the college in 2023, after years as a trainer and assessor watching capable students struggle for want of support rather than ability. That is still the test applied to decisions here.

Since then, 100+ domestic students have graduated, out of more than 1,200 trained across all cohorts. We record 90% satisfaction in our student experience survey. We hold 5 stars from 63 Google reviews.

We run one campus, at Level 5, 398 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne VIC 3000, in the CBD.

How Long It Takes, and How You Study

Domestic students complete CHC33021 over 6 to 9 months. Study is online, with live Zoom classes, which means scheduled sessions with a trainer rather than a folder of recordings to work through alone. Most of our domestic students are fitting study around work or family, and the schedule is built for that.

International students take the 52 week version of the same qualification, on campus at Lonsdale Street.

Whichever cohort you are in, the certificate issued at the end is the same nationally recognised qualification. You need to be 18 or over to start, and everyone completes a short language, literacy and numeracy assessment before the course begins so we know what support to put around you.

What the Course Costs

For domestic students, CHC33021 is $2,500. Enrolment adds another $250. Work placement assistance is included in that.

You do not have to pay it in one go. We run monthly and quarterly instalment plans with no extra fees and no interest, so the course fee is simply divided into payments.

Some Victorian providers offer government subsidised or fee free places for eligible students, and it is worth checking whether you qualify before you enrol anywhere. We are a fee paying provider, which is why the payment plan exists.

International student fees are quoted on enquiry, because they depend on the course and the cohort. Email info@tpc.edu.au and we will send you the current figures.

Work Placement

CHC33021 requires at least 120 hours of supervised work-based training. It has to be done in a residential care or in-home care facility with an approved NDIS provider, which is an assessment requirement of the qualification rather than a house rule of ours.

We help you secure that placement rather than leaving you to cold call providers, and the assistance is included in the course fee. It is where most students find the job becomes real rather than theoretical.

It works. Around 75% of our students are already working in the field while they are still studying, and some have been offered a contract by the facility they did their placement with.

Start With a Conversation

The honest first step is a five minute phone call about your situation, because whether you enrol here or take a subsidised place somewhere else depends on details we would rather ask about than guess. Domestic students can enrol and begin whenever they are ready; international students should ask us about the next intake, since those dates are set.

Call 03 9008 4043, or email info@tpc.edu.au. We answer enquiries within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Common Questions

How much does an aged care course cost in Melbourne?

At The Performance College, $2,500 for domestic students. Enrolment adds $250, and you can pay in instalments. Fees vary widely across providers, so when you compare, check whether the enrolment fee and placement support sit inside the figure you are quoted.

How long does it take to study aged care in Australia?

Domestic students here finish in 6 to 9 months. The international version runs 52 weeks. Both lead to the same CHC33021 certificate.

Is the aged care course free in Australia?

Not universally. Victoria funds subsidised and fee free training places at approved providers for students who meet the eligibility rules, so check your eligibility first. Our course is fee paying, with an interest free payment plan.

What is the best aged care course to do?

For getting into the sector, CHC33021 is the one to hold. Certificate IV and diploma level study is worth looking at later, once you have worked in a care setting and know which direction you want.

Can I study aged care online?

Yes. Domestic delivery is online with live Zoom classes. The work placement component still happens in person, in a real workplace.
