Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Hoppers Crossing: CHC50125

You have the Certificate III, and 280 hours of placement is most of what stands between you and CHC50125. That is worth saying first, because the study side of the diploma of early childhood education and care Hoppers Crossing educators take is the straightforward part. The Performance College runs it online with live Zoom classes over 6 to 9 months for domestic students. Ring 03 9008 4043 and we will start with the placement maths rather than leave it to the end.

The Performance College

We are a registered training organisation, RTO 46069, and a CRICOS registered provider, CRICOS 04180C. The diploma is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, so it holds anywhere in the country.

Rekha Sehrawat founded the college in 2023, after years as a trainer and assessor watching capable students struggle for want of support rather than ability. We have 100+ domestic graduates so far.

The campus is Level 5, 398 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne CBD. The full credential list is on the Melbourne aged care course page.

The 280 Hours Are the Real Commitment

CHC50125 requires 280 hours of supervised work-based training in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia. It is close to double the Certificate III requirement, and it is the main reason the diploma takes the time it does.

The hours are applied collectively across every unit that carries a workplace requirement. They run through the course rather than sitting at the end as a block, which means your finish date is largely a function of how many days a week you can be in a service.

We arrange the placement and have partner sites across Victoria, so you are not approaching services yourself.

Three Clearances Before You Start

Nothing begins until these are in place: a police clearance certificate no more than 12 months old, a valid Working with Children clearance, and immunisation checks where the placement provider requires them.

They are independent of each other, so apply for all three at once. The slowest one sets your start date, and there is no way to know in advance which that will be.

What You Study

The diploma is 15 units of competency, and the shift from the certificate is from carrying out a program to designing one.

You will cover child development across physical, cognitive, social and emotional dimensions, designing play-based learning experiences, health and safety protocols, partnerships with families, curriculum design against an approved learning framework, and the ethical and legal responsibilities that come with leading rather than assisting.

It qualifies you for early childhood educator, family day care educator, educational leader and outside school hours care educator roles.

What You Need Before Enrolling

A Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is required. Recognition of Prior Learning is available where you have the experience without every unit formally signed off.

You will also need to be 18 or over when the course begins, with Year 12 or an equivalent, or a 12 month qualification completed in English, plus a short language, literacy and numeracy assessment that shapes the support you get.

Studying From the West

Live Zoom classes are timetabled sessions with a trainer in the room. Everything except placement happens from home, which is what makes the diploma workable while you are still employed.

You will need a computer and a connection that will hold a video class end to end.

International students study on campus in the Melbourne CBD, and their intakes run to set dates.

Services Across Hoppers Crossing

Milestones and Goodstart both operate here, Lili’s ELC and Little Learners run centres locally, and Hoppers Crossing Montessori Centre offers a different approach again.

That spread matters at diploma level in a way it does not at certificate level, because an educational leader’s job looks quite different in a Montessori setting than in a large long day care service. Placement is where you find out which suits you.

Fees

The diploma is $3,500 for domestic students. Enrolment is a further $250, with placement assistance included in both.

Payments can be monthly or quarterly, with no interest and no additional charges.

Victoria funds subsidised and fee free places at approved providers for eligible students. Check where you stand before enrolling anywhere, including here.

Questions

Can I count hours I have already worked?

Paid work is not the same as supervised placement hours, but Recognition of Prior Learning may cover units you can demonstrate. Raise it with admissions.

How long is it?

6 to 9 months for domestic students, for the full nationally recognised diploma.

Do I travel into the city?

Not for teaching. Only placement is in person.

What if my clearances lapse mid-course?

Tell us early. A lapsed clearance stops placement immediately, and renewing it is far easier than rescheduling around it.

Where to Begin

Work out the honest number first: how many days a week you could be in a service. Everything else on this page is fixed, and that one answer decides whether the diploma takes six months or nine.

Ring 03 9008 4043 or email info@tpc.edu.au. Domestic study is online, and intakes start monthly, every month bar December. We reply within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
