Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Frankston: CHC50125

Ready to move from working in a room to running one? That is the honest description of what CHC50125 does, and it is the diploma of early childhood education and care Frankston educators take when they want the educational leader roles rather than more years on the floor. The Performance College teaches it online with live Zoom classes, in 6 to 9 months for domestic students. You will need a Certificate III already, plus 280 hours of placement. Ring 03 9008 4043 to check where you stand.

About The Performance College

We are a registered training organisation, RTO 46069, and a CRICOS registered provider, CRICOS 04180C. That registration is what makes the diploma nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework rather than a certificate that stops with us.

Rekha Sehrawat founded the college in 2023, after years as a trainer and assessor watching capable students struggle for want of support rather than ability. We have 100+ domestic graduates so far.

The campus is Level 5, 398 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne CBD. The full credential list is on the Melbourne aged care course page.

Who the Diploma Is Actually For

It is for people already working with children who have hit the ceiling of what a Certificate III lets them do.

If you are still deciding whether early childhood is for you, this is not the place to start. Do the certificate, work in a service, then come back. Starting at diploma level without floor experience is the common and expensive mistake, because much of what is assessed assumes you have already seen a room run badly and a room run well.

What Changes When You Hold It

The certificate qualifies you to work with children. The diploma qualifies you to decide what the room does.

You will study child development across physical, cognitive, social and emotional dimensions, design play-based learning experiences, establish health and safety protocols, build partnerships with families, and take on the ethical and legal responsibilities of running a program.

The roles it opens are early childhood educator, family day care educator, educational leader and outside school hours care educator. The one people are usually aiming at is educational leader.

Entry: The Certificate III Requirement

You must hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care to enrol.

Recognition of Prior Learning is available where you have the experience but not every unit signed off, and experienced educators are frequently credited. It is worth asking rather than assuming you have to repeat work you can already do.

You will also need to be 18 or over when the course begins, with Year 12 or an equivalent, or a 12 month qualification completed in English. Everyone sits a short language, literacy and numeracy assessment first, which is there to shape the support you get rather than to exclude you.

280 Hours and the Clearances

CHC50125 requires 280 hours of supervised work-based training in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia, counted across the units that carry a workplace requirement.

Before any of it you need a police clearance certificate no more than 12 months old, a valid Working with Children clearance, and immunisation checks where the placement provider asks for them.

We arrange the placement and have partner sites across Victoria. What we need from you is the clearances and an honest picture of your availability, early rather than late.

Studying From Frankston

Live Zoom classes are timetabled sessions with a trainer in the room. At diploma level much of what you are assessed on is judgement, and judgement gets developed in discussion rather than in a reading list.

Everything but placement happens from home, which for the peninsula is the difference between a course that fits around shifts and one that does not.

You will need a computer and a connection that carries a video class the whole way through. International students study on campus in the Melbourne CBD, and their intakes run to set dates.

Early Learning Employers Around Frankston

Early Learning Victoria operates a centre in Frankston called Ngawak, and Bright Steps Academy runs a childcare centre here.

Services need educational leaders as well as educators, and that gap is what the diploma is for.

Cost

The diploma is $3,500 for domestic students. Enrolment is a further $250, and placement assistance is included in both.

Instalments are monthly or quarterly, with no interest and no extra charges.

Victoria funds subsidised and fee free places at approved providers for students who meet the eligibility rules. Check whether you qualify before enrolling anywhere, here included.

Frankston Questions

I have years of experience but no Certificate III. Can I enrol?

Ask us about Recognition of Prior Learning. It exists precisely for this, and the answer depends on what you can demonstrate.

Do I have to travel into Melbourne?

Not for teaching. Only the 280 placement hours are in person.

How long does it take?

6 to 9 months for domestic students.

Which clearance should I get first?

All three, at once. They are independent of each other and the slowest one sets your start date.

Starting

If you already have the certificate and the clearances, there is nothing standing between you and enrolling. If you have neither, start the clearances this week and talk to us about RPL. Both are free and both take time you do not want to spend later.

Ring 03 9008 4043 or email info@tpc.edu.au. Domestic study is online, and monthly intakes mean the next start date is close, December aside. We reply within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
