Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Geelong: CHC50125 Online

Getting a room leader role usually starts with the qualification rather than with more years on the floor. That qualification is CHC50125, and the diploma of early childhood education and care Geelong services recognise is delivered by The Performance College online, with live Zoom classes, over 6 to 9 months for domestic students. It assumes you already hold a Certificate III. Ring 03 9008 4043 if you want to know whether yours qualifies you to start.

The Performance College and CHC50125

We are a registered training organisation, RTO 46069, and a CRICOS registered provider, CRICOS 04180C. The diploma is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, which is what lets it travel with you between employers and states.

Rekha Sehrawat founded the college in 2023, after years as a trainer and assessor watching capable students struggle for want of support rather than ability. We have 100+ domestic graduates so far.

Our campus is Level 5, 398 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne CBD. The full credential list is on the Melbourne aged care course page.

What an Educational Leader Actually Does

The title sounds administrative and the work is not. An educational leader decides what a room is trying to achieve this term, whether the program is actually reaching every child in it, and how that gets explained to families who want to know why their child spent Tuesday outside.

The diploma teaches that directly: curriculum design against an approved learning framework, child development across physical, cognitive, social and emotional dimensions, health and safety protocols, family partnerships, and the ethical and legal responsibilities of running a program rather than working within one.

Getting In: What You Need First

A Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is required. Recognition of Prior Learning is available if you have the experience without every unit formally signed off, and experienced educators are often credited.

You will also need to be 18 or over when the course starts, and to hold Year 12 or an equivalent, or a 12 month qualification completed in English. Everyone sits a short language, literacy and numeracy assessment beforehand, which shapes the support you receive rather than deciding whether you get in.

Placement: 280 Hours

CHC50125 requires 280 hours of supervised work-based training in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia. The total is applied across every unit that carries a workplace requirement, so it runs through the course instead of sitting at the end.

Three things have to be in place before you begin: a police clearance certificate no more than 12 months old, a valid Working with Children clearance, and immunisation checks where the placement provider requires them.

We arrange the placement and have partner sites across Victoria, so locating a service is not your job.

Why the Hours Set Your Finish Date

280 hours is nearly double what the Certificate III asks for, and that is the single biggest reason the diploma takes the time it does.

Because the hours are counted across units rather than block-released, your finish date is really a function of how many days a week you can be in a service. Two days moves you through noticeably faster than one. Nobody can compress the total, but you can decide how it is spread.

That is the conversation worth having at enquiry rather than at enrolment, because it is the only variable on this page you actually control.

Fees and Funded Places

The diploma is $3,500 for domestic students. Enrolment is a further $250, and placement assistance is included in both.

Instalments are monthly or quarterly, with no interest and no additional charges.

Victoria funds subsidised and fee free training places at approved providers for students who meet the eligibility rules. Eligibility depends on residency, age and what you have already completed, so it is worth checking your own position rather than assuming. We are a fee paying provider, which is why the instalment plan exists.

Studying From Geelong

Live Zoom classes are timetabled sessions with a trainer present, not recordings to work through alone. At diploma level that difference is sharper than at certificate level, because most of what you are assessed on is judgement and judgement is built in conversation.

You will need a computer and a connection that will hold a video class end to end.

International students study on campus in the Melbourne CBD, and their intakes fall on set dates.

Services Around Geelong

Geelong Children’s Centre operates locally as a not for profit service, and G8 Education runs centres in the area.

Services at that scale need educational leaders as well as educators. That is the straightforward argument for holding the diploma while you are already working here.
