Childcare Courses Online: CHC30125 and CHC50125 for Domestic Students

If you are looking at childcare courses online, the first thing to settle is which qualification you actually need, because there are two and they are not interchangeable. CHC30125 is the Certificate III, the entry qualification. CHC50125 is the Diploma, the one services appoint educational leaders from. The Performance College delivers both to domestic students with live Zoom classes over 6 to 9 months. Ring 03 9008 4043 if you want help working out which one applies to you.

What Online Actually Means Here

Online does not mean alone. Classes are live Zoom sessions on a timetable with a trainer present, and course materials stay available around them. The distinction matters more in early childhood than in most fields. A great deal of what you are assessed on is judgement: what you would do when a two year old bites, when a parent is upset at pick-up, when a child is not joining in. Those are things you talk through, not things you read. What genuinely is online is everything except placement. No campus, no commute, no fixed classroom. You will need a computer and an internet connection that will hold a video class from start to finish.

Which Course Is Best for Child Care

If you have not worked in a service before, the Certificate III. It is the recognised entry qualification and it is what a job ad means by "a Cert III". If you already hold the Certificate III and have floor experience, the Diploma. It is what services look for when appointing an educational leader or a centre director, and it assumes you have already seen a program run. Going straight to the Diploma without the Certificate III is not possible: it is a formal entry requirement. If you have the experience but not the paperwork, ask about Recognition of Prior Learning rather than assuming you are locked out.

About The Performance College

We are a registered training organisation, RTO 46069, and a CRICOS registered provider, CRICOS 04180C, which places us under ASQA and the Standards for RTOs. Every qualification we issue is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Rekha Sehrawat founded the college in 2023, after years as a trainer and assessor watching capable students struggle for want of support rather than ability.

Since then, 100+ domestic students have graduated, out of more than 1,200 trained across all cohorts. We record 90% satisfaction in our student experience survey and hold 5 stars from 63 Google reviews.

The campus is Level 5, 398 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne VIC 3000. Domestic students never need to visit it.

Placement Is the Part That Is Not Online

Both qualifications require supervised work-based training in a regulated children’s education and care service, and the difference between them is substantial.

The Certificate III requires a minimum of 160 hours. The Diploma requires 280. In both cases the hours are counted collectively across the units that carry a workplace requirement, so they run through the course rather than sitting at the end.

A current Working with Children Check is needed before placement can begin. For the Diploma you will also need a police clearance certificate no more than 12 months old and immunisation checks where the placement provider requires them.

We arrange your placement and have partner sites across Victoria. Placement assistance is included in the course fee.

What They Cost

The Certificate III is $2,500 for domestic students. The Diploma is $3,500. Enrolment adds a further $250 to either, and placement assistance is included.

Instalments are monthly or quarterly, with no interest and no additional charges.

Victoria funds subsidised and fee free training places at approved providers for students who meet the eligibility rules. Check whether you qualify before enrolling anywhere, ourselves included.

On Pay

People ask what a Certificate III earns per hour, and we will not put a figure on it.

It is not evasion. Pay depends on your classification, your hours, whether you are casual or permanent, and who employs you, and those rates move. A single number on a course page is either out of date or averaged into meaninglessness, and it is exactly the kind of number people budget on.

The useful question, and the one you can get a real answer to, is what a specific service pays a new Certificate III holder compared with a diploma qualified educator. Ask two or three centres near you. The gap between those figures is what doing the Diploma is actually worth, and only an employer can tell you what it is.

Entry Requirements

For either qualification you must be 18 or over when the course commences, and hold Year 12 or an equivalent, or a 12 month qualification completed in English.

Every student completes a language, literacy and numeracy assessment before the course begins, through the LLN Robot platform. It determines the support we arrange rather than whether you are admitted.

The Diploma additionally requires a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Choosing Between Them

If you are new to the sector, start with the Certificate III and do not let anyone talk you past it. If you have been running a room in all but title, the Diploma is overdue. The middle case, some experience but no certificate, is the one worth a phone call.

Common Questions

Can I do a child care course online?

The teaching, yes, entirely. The placement hours have to happen in a real service with real children, and no provider can change that.

How long will it take?

6 to 9 months for domestic students, for either qualification. The variable is how many days a week you can be on placement.

When do courses start?

Domestic study is online and intakes begin every month except December, so you are never enrolling months ahead of a start date.

Is either one free?

Victoria funds subsidised and fee free places for students who meet the criteria, so check your own eligibility first. Ours are fee paying, with interest free instalments.
