Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Werribee: CHC50125

Choosing when to step up from a Certificate III usually comes down to one thing: whether you want to lead a room or keep working in one. The diploma of early childhood education and care Werribee educators move on to is CHC50125, and The Performance College delivers it online with live Zoom classes over 6 to 9 months for domestic students. It assumes the certificate is already behind you. Ring 03 9008 4043 if you are weighing up the timing.

The Performance College

We are a registered training organisation, RTO 46069, and a CRICOS registered provider, CRICOS 04180C. The diploma is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, so it carries the same weight anywhere in the country.

Rekha Sehrawat founded the college in 2023, after years as a trainer and assessor watching capable students struggle for want of support rather than ability. We have 100+ domestic graduates so far.

The campus is Level 5, 398 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne CBD. The full credential list is on the Melbourne aged care course page.

When to Step Up

There is no rule, but there is a pattern worth knowing. The diploma assumes floor experience, and much of what it assesses makes more sense once you have seen a program work and seen one struggle.

If you finished the certificate last month, working first is usually the better call. If you have been running a room in all but title and waiting for the paperwork to catch up, you are already late.

The honest test is whether you have opinions about how your service does things. If you do, you are ready.

What the Diploma Adds

The certificate qualifies you to work with children. The diploma qualifies you to design what happens.

It is 15 units of competency, covering curriculum design against an approved learning framework, child development across physical, cognitive, social and emotional dimensions, play-based learning experiences, health and safety protocols, family partnerships, and the ethical and legal responsibilities of leading a program.

The roles it opens are early childhood educator, family day care educator, educational leader and outside school hours care educator.

Entry Requirements

You must hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Recognition of Prior Learning is available where you have the experience but not every unit formally recorded, and experienced educators are often credited for what they can demonstrate.

You also need to be 18 or over when the course begins, with Year 12 or an equivalent, or a 12 month qualification completed in English. Everyone sits a short language, literacy and numeracy assessment beforehand, which sets the support you get rather than deciding admission.

280 Hours, and Getting Them Scheduled

CHC50125 requires 280 hours of supervised work-based training in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia, counted across every unit that carries a workplace requirement.

Before you begin you will need a police clearance certificate no more than 12 months old, a valid Working with Children clearance, and immunisation checks where the placement provider requires them.

We arrange the placement and have partner sites across Victoria. The part that determines your finish date is how many days a week you can actually be in a service, so bring a realistic answer to that at the enquiry stage.

Studying From Werribee

Live Zoom classes are timetabled sessions with a trainer in the room, not recordings left for you to get through. At this level much of the assessment turns on judgement, and judgement gets built by being talked through, not read about.

Everything except placement happens from home. You will need a computer and a connection that will carry a video class end to end.

International students study on campus in the Melbourne CBD, and their intakes run to set dates.

Early Learning Around Werribee

Imagine Childcare, Nido, Milestones, Aspire Early Education and Adventurers Childcare all operate services in or near Werribee.

Werribee has grown quickly and the number of services has grown with it. Each of them needs an educational leader, which is the plain argument for holding the diploma rather than waiting to be asked for it.

Fees

The diploma is $3,500 for domestic students. Enrolment is a further $250, and placement assistance is included in both.

Instalments are monthly or quarterly, with no interest and no additional charges.

Victoria funds subsidised and fee free places at approved providers for eligible students. Work out whether you qualify before enrolling anywhere, here included.

Werribee Questions

Should I do this straight after the Certificate III?

Usually not. A stretch of floor experience makes the diploma easier and makes you better at it. There is no penalty for waiting a year.

Can I study while working full time?

Classes are online and timetabled, so the study side generally fits. Placement is the constraint, and it is worth negotiating with your employer before you enrol.

How long is it?

6 to 9 months for domestic students, for the full nationally recognised diploma.

Do I need to come into Melbourne?

Not for teaching. Only the 280 placement hours are in person.

Before You Enrol

If you are still deciding whether now is the right time, the useful question is not about the course. It is whether your service could give you the placement days. Ask them first; the answer usually settles the timing on its own.

Ring 03 9008 4043 or email info@tpc.edu.au. Domestic study is online, and intakes run every month of the year except December. We reply within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
